The Three Pebbles Story

By Keith  and Leng Leng

This is the story of a human’s journey to enlightenment as represented by the three pebbles below.....

The Rough 'Pebble'

We begin our life like a rough stone with jagged edges.

When a baby is born, then during the journey of growing up,  life is full of challenges and rough patches. These are the “sweet and sour” qualities of the life which we experience  before we become a wiser person. The root cause for  suffering relates to human desires, hatred, and ignorance.

The Smooth Round Pebble

We gradually smooth out our jagged edges and become like the second pebble - smooth and well-rounded.

The round pebble also represents the 'Circle of life'.

The Heart Shaped Pebble

Later we learn compassion and this is represented by the heart shape pebble.

Compassion is about recognizing the suffering of others and wishing for that suffering to be alleviated.

The Heart shaped pebble also reminds us of the following riddle:

Why do we have two legs, two arms, two eyes, two ears, but only one heart?

Because the other one was given to somebody else for us to find.

The heart stone also looks like two  pebbles overlapping at one end and separate at the other - like the joining together of two people in love.
